  1. Always with me even when lost for past 23 years! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Dec 2020

When By Ron informed me that they were retiring, I was happy for them but felt vulnerable. I had gifted many Palm Crosses to family, friends, Marines and soldiers throughout the past 23 years. My Palm Cross with Christ's body has gone to many areas in the world. I have slipped my Palm Cross into the hands of the dying, the wounded in Fallujah, the depressed, the anxious, and those in the dark night of the soul. Sometimes I had to leave my Palm Cross with a dying person who did not want to let go. It always returned, often by a family member and sometimes after they breathed their last.

Here at St. Monica, I visit the prisoners. One time I knew the Holy Spirit wanted me to let a prisoner take my Cross until my next visit. This was very rare and not very comforting for me. Turns out that the prisoner attempted to sell my Cross, but he later had a conversion and bought it back for twice what he sold it for. Then he handed it back to me with tears in his eyes and gratitude. "Father, it wasn't the Cross, but you trusted me and I failed. Please have mercy." We both wept and embraced.

This past year during the height of the Covid pandemic, a parishoner for the past 96 years (our parish is 162 years old and our current Church was dedicated in 1899), was dying and asked for me. On my every visit, I allowed Sarah to hold my palm cross. She just smiled and prayed beautifully when she held that cross. I couldn't give her one, because I had given all of them away. So on this last visit with Hospice, her sister and lapsed Catholic Children watched in amazement as she came to life when I entered the room. Mind you this is COVID time. All of the Hospice Nurses where there too. After singing and laughing and praying, Sarah looked into my eyes as I prepared to go and take the Cross. I knew. I kissed her goodbye and left her holding the Cross. Her family handed me the Cross at the funeral and I placed it on her casket. After the song of farewell where we use incense to indicate our prayers rising before God, I slipped the Palm Cross back in my pocket. Her daughter whispered to me, "She never let go of the Cross for the three days after you left Father. Even when we bathed or changed her, she did not let go." I smiled and rejoiced that the oil of Sarah and her family were on my Cross.

But it is not my Palm Cross. It is only given to me for a time. About a month ago I went to a sporting event and I realized that my Palm Cross fell out of my pocket and is lost forever. I tried many avenues, but I knew God was asking me to let it go. I figured someone needs it more than me.

At my parish, I had another little wood cross and Rosary I have been holding, but I missed my Cross. It wasn't the same. Then I found an old brochure of Ron Foht in one of my many piles of paper. I googled and was about to call Ron and beg him to make me one, but it didn't feel right.

I was directed to Joe and Deena Rogers and how they resurrected the Palm Cross. Hallelujah.

You see, I do have pictures of may Palm Cross from way back. Some of my most profound prayer comes from this Cross. I even have my retirement picture from the U.S. Naval Reserves with me holding the Palm Cross. The Colonel who wrote the afterward of my book TEAR IN THE DESERT about my journey to Fallujah and back speaks about how the Palm Cross I gave him stayed in his cargo pocket above his heart and melted over his whole body during the many weeks in Iraq.

So after talking with Joe Rogers and ordering my Palm Cross and three to give away sometime, I waited patiently (not) for my Palm Cross to arrive. I didn't want the rush order, because I wanted the Palm Cross to be prayed over and then influence even the postal service.

So even though this cross in my pocket is not technically the original with the oils of hundreds of loved ones who have died, including my mother, it really is my Palm Cross given to me by Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

I have had horrible dreams and flashbacks lately. But they seem to melt and disappear when I reach over to my bed stand and place the Palm Cross on my heart as I pray the rosary. God speaks to me through Isaiah the prophet: I will never forget you my people. I have carved you in the palm of my hand. I will never forget you, I will not leave you orphaned. I will never forget my own.

    Semper Fi!

  3. Absolutely beautiful! 5 Star Review

We purchased this cross as a gift for our pastor who is celebrating his 50th anniversary as a priest this coming June. We plan to invite our parishioners to each hold the cross and say a prayer of thanksgiving for our pastor and all he has given us through his faithful service to our Lord. I think he will find this to be a wonderfully meaningful gift.

  4. A gift that reminds you of The Gift... 5 Star Review

My wife bought me my first Palm Cross about 11 years ago, and it has been a great addition to my prayer life; I feel as if my hand is being held by someone as I pray. I purchased a second cross for use in my office, particularly for those with whom I am engaged in pre-marital, nullity, or simple counseling. There have been many tears, prayers, and love given, received, and simply shared.

  6. A beautiful and treasured gift! 5 Star Review

I have been buying and gifting the By-Ron Palm Cross for many years. I purchased the first one from a Catholic gift store for myself. Holding it while praying gave me such comfort and peace that I purchased several more to have to give as gifts. When the mother of one of my son's friends was terminally ill, he gave her a cross that has become treasured by her family. When my pastor seemed overwhelmed by his responsibilities, I gave him one. This week, I am sending them to my two oldest brothers, both of whom have Parkinsons. In all, I have given away over fifteen and will continue to offer that comforting presence of Our Lord. The crosses are always gratefully received. The velvet bag is a lovely bonus, although I am not sure how often the bags are used. After all, the cross is meant to be held in one's hand and carried in one's heart!

  7. Source of comfort 5 Star Review

I bought the first Palm Cross when my brother had a kidney transplant. It brought him great comfort as he recovered. After seeing the quality and feeling of God's presence when you hold it, I purchased one for myself. It has helped me deal with many challenges in my life. My most recent Palm Cross gift is for my dear friend who lost her precious Mother. May God bless you.

  9. Lovely, fits right in my hand 5 Star Review

This is just gorgeous, the grain of the wood has a soothing swirl, and the crucified Christ inspires contemplation

I chose to have mine personalized with the Gospel text of the first Mass I attended and the date I was received into the church.

I take my Palm Cross everywhere with me, it tucks right into my purse.

  10. The best gift you can give 5 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Nov 2015

I have been purchasing the palm crosses for many years. When a friend or relative is going through life's difficulties, it is the most comforting gift. The leaflet that comes with it is so valuable because it explains what the product is about and how meaningful it will become. I value the hand-carved, personal aspect of the palm crosses and knowing that someone who cares and is prayerful doing the work is very special. God bless you in your wonderful work.
